1. A study from the University of Chicago and Rice University discovered that rideshare accidents had increased traffic deaths by 2 to 3 percent since 2011. That’s equivalent to as many as 1,100 fatalities a year. Uber’s U.S. Safety Report stated that there were more than 36,000 fatal car accidents in 2018 alone.
  2. The number of fatal crashes related to Uber trips was 49 in 2017 and 58 in 2018. The statistics included accidents that occurred outside Uber vehicles, such as when a passenger was struck after exiting a ride, and crashes in which Uber drivers were not at fault. Uber disclosed 10 murders in 2017 and nine in 2018 (NY Times).
  3. Denying liability is a tactic insurance companies use to delay and ultimately deny claims. Don’t fall for this trap. Insurance company strategy is to delay, deny, then defend–by the “defend” phase most consumers simply give up for risk of losing more time and money.
